The community crosswalk addresses pedestrian safety concerns at the intersection of Rainier Ave. S and MLK Jr. Way S and engages the established community of artists in the Artspace Lofts and Franklin High School. This intervention encourages the artistic communities of the Mt Baker Station Area to stay in place. If done through SDOT, the crosswalk upgrade could cost approximately $65,000 to install – but the cost could be brought down to $2,000 if done through community labor (guerilla painting).
