Crossing the intersection of Rainier Ave. S and MLK Jr. Way S can feel unwelcoming and unsafe due to the heavy car flow beneath and poor light quality on the narrow pedestrian bridge. This intervention consists of an interactive pavement which lights up when a user walks on it, increasing safety on the bridge and turning it into a more pleasant place to walk. The electricity for lighting the bridge can be generated by the steps of pedestrians above by installing a piezoelectric material in between recycled rubber sheets.
