A robust social structure is a key to resilience. The Social Lab is a gathering place which encourages community interactions. The space also serves to prepare for natural disasters, by providing a workshop and means to share knowledge. Depending on the lab locations, they can be utilized as a hub in an emergency situation. The use of temporary shipping containers is a first experiment in the development of the future permanent Mount Baker Community Center. The affordability and adaptability of those structures allows community members to shape spaces based on their need.
